Intumescent strips – self-expanding insulation tapes for sealing gaps and joints
Intumescent strips expand (‘foam up’) in the event of a fire and increase their volume so as to seal structural openings and joints, thus reliably preventing the passage of heat, fire and also smoke.
Our strips are made of innovative materials that feature an expanding (intumescent) and an energy-absorbing effect (ablative). Energy absorption helps to reduce heat transfer across surfaces. With some materials, the microporous char-like foam layer created in the process of expansion has an extra insulating effect.

How intumescent strips work
On contact with heat, the self-expanding material of the fire protection tape swells up many times its original thickness, from a minimum of 9 times to a maximum of 50 times. The expansion pressure thus generated can reach up to 1.5 N/mm2. The resulting physical barrier prevents flames, smoke and hot gases from escaping around the fire-resistant element – thanks to proper sealing with the intumescent strips.
Design variants of our insulating tapes
Our intumescent strips are self-adhesive on one side, and they come with or without a cover film, depending on the type of use.
Why choose intumescent strips and insulating tapes by KuhnOdice?
Different environments require different reactive materials for fire protection. Therefore, we offer a broad range of solutions, including products that exhibit fast onset of reaction and products that develop a rigid, steadily expanding char-like foam. Building on many years of experience in the world of fire protection materials, we take pleasure in working with our customers to develop the optimum solution for every need and requirement.
